Dr.Kumaresh Krishnamoorthy Column
Dr.Kumaresh Krishnamoorthy is an ENT surgeon who graduated from PSG Medical College, India. He got his MS (ENT) from Madurai Medical College, Madurai. He then went on to do his senior residency at JIPMER, Pondicherry. His quest for medical excellence made him to look towards US for specialized training. He has got fellowships in two of the most demanding and sought after fellowships namely head and neck surgery fellowship and neurotology and skull base fellowship. These are his main areas of interest.
The head and neck surgery fellowship was from Roswell Park Cancer Institute. In view of his head and neck surgery fellowship he can also undertake anterior skull base surgeries. He then went on to complete the fellowship in Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery from University of Cincinnati in collaboration with Mayfield clinic, world pioneers in Neurosurgery. Dr.Kumaresh is the first Indian for the prestigious Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery Fellowship. Neurotology is a clinical subspecialty concerned with the diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of hearing and balance disorders (dizziness), ringing noise in the ears (tinnitus), the facial nerve (nerve of facial movements), the ear and temporal bone and related structures such as the lateral skull base (housing the inner ear structures) and the brainstem among others. During his fellowship he had training in the latest technique in single sided deafness namely Bone Anchored Hearing Aids.
His desire to give back to his country saw him returning back to India and take up a position as Senior Consultant at Asia’s largest healthcare provider Apollo Hospitals. In view of his expertise he has been appointed as a the reviewer for some of the worlds well known international journals like Laryngoscope, Otolaryngology and Head and Neck surgery and Lancet among others.
