LETTER FROM SWEDEN

September 2000


In the beginning of August Nomita Chandy and Shanthi Chacko came to Sweden. We were about 35 families who had invited them and sponsored the trip. One weekend 110 adoptive children and parents had a wonderful meeting with our guests from India. Many of the families had a personal chat with Nomita and Shanthi that they appreciated. The youth sat down for over two hours and talked with them about their heritage and how to make a return journey. We had an international evening with food both from Sweden and India. Ashraya being 18 years old was celebrated with a cake, candels and firecrackers. Some families showed videos from their visits to Bangalore. We also saw the very informative and nice video about Ashraya´s different kind of work to help children and families in need.
For all of the adoptive children and parents it ment more than words can express to be together with Nomita and Shanthi. We are very thankful that hey could come and give us an unvaluable meeting.

As a host family I also want to express what a big event it was to have Nomita and Shanthi staying in our home. They took part in the regular activities in our family. We shared many questions about our cultures and found both similarites and differences and had much fun together. It was great to show them the piece of our pretty country where we live close to the west coast. A couple of days they got to visit Stockholm and Adoptioncenter.
