An afternoon with Mogli and Baloo!!

We had great fun a few weeks ago, we went to the cinema ! We couldn't all go together, as there are too many of us, so some of us went one day and some then some the next day. I went on the first day. We all put on our best clothes (everyone said how smart we looked ) and left on our adventure at 3 o'clock.

We drove to the cinema in a Safari, a cool car, really high, climbing up into the seats was like climbing a mountain ! Once we were in though we could see over the top of everyone else. It had a tape recorder as well, we asked if we would have some music on, then asked if the volume could be turned up !

As the film didn't start until 3.45 p.m. Bhaskar, who was driving, took us the long way around. Dancing in our seats we went past Ulsoor Lake, through Cubbon Park, which we thought looked great with all those trees tp climb, past the Vidhana Souda and then down MG Road. We saw so much, horses, cows, and aeroplane and lots of traffic policemen.

When we got to the cinema Bhaskar dropped us off and we all went in to get our tickets. Luckily it wasn't very busy so we could sit where we liked, we all wanted to sit right at the front but in the end we sat in the middle. It seemed like ages before the film started, there were lots of adverts first, some were quite good but some were a little boring ! It didn't really matter though, we were all so excited. Everytime something else came up on the screen we looked at Julia until at last she said, yes its Mogli !! Hooraaaaay !!

All the lights went off then and we were in another world for the next 40 minutes ! It was so dark and loud, the different noises seemed to come from all around us. The screen was huge, Mogli must have been bigger than our whole classroom ! It wasn't a cartoon, like our Jungle Book we have on a video at Ashraya. The jungle and all the animals were real. Even the tiger was real, and whenever we saw him anywhere near Mogli we shouted at Mogli to watch out ! We liked the monkeys, they made us laugh the way they were always so naughty !

At the interval we all went out to the ice-cream man. We had vanilla ice-cream in a little tub and we ate every last drop of that ice- cream it tasted so good ! Then the film started again and we glued our eyes back on the screen ! In the end Mogli escaped from the snakes, he wasn't taken to the circus, his wolf family found him and they all went running off into the jungle. We cheered when the monkeys shot the bad man out of the cannon !

Walking out of the cinema chatting about everthing we had seen we found Bhaskar who was waiting for us. Holding hands we walked to the car, slowing down everytime we went past a shop window - it took a long time to get to the car !! I don't think there was one quiet moment in the car, we just couldn't stop talking about the film and all the shops and the people we were passing. We read out sign boards while stopped in the traffic and at the same time tried to persuade Julia that she should take us to see Snake Lady at the cinema next week !

When we got home we thanked Julia for taking us out and ran inside as fast as we could to tell the other children all about it ! We had a great afternoon, seen so many things but it was nice to get back to tell everybody.

As told to Julia who is a regular volunteer with Ashraya.
